Cholesterol Testing & Cholesterol Home Test Kits
Most people are aware it is possible to pop down to the doctor's surgery and request a cholesterol check, but very few realize it is also possible to perform a DIY cholesterol check at home. Of course, self-testing is not for everyone, but offers people a quick and easy way to find out whether or not cholesterol has become an issue for them. Cholesterol home test kits can be used at any time, 24-hours a day, so there is no need to take time off work or miss out on other things. A self-test can be done at a time that suits. No appointments are required and there is no need to sit in a waiting room filled with lots of coughing and sneezing.
What Is a Cholesterol Home Test Kit?
Cholesterol home test kits provide an effective way to test cholesterol levels at home and, unlike tests carried out by a doctor, there is no need to wait for the results. All the information is available in a matter of just minutes.
Where to buy Cholesterol Home Test Kits
Cholesterol home test kits are available from most good chemist's shops and generally cost £12 to £15.
How to use Cholesterol Home Test Kits
Using a cholesterol home testing kit is simplicity itself. It is just a case of choosing a finger and pricking it with the supplied lancet. Then, when a small globule of blood forms on the fingertip, the finger is dabbed on the cholesterol test strip. The chemicals embedded in the test strip paper do all the clever stuff. When mixed with the blood they cause the strip to change colour and the resulting colour is governed by how much cholesterol is in the blood. By comparing the colour of the strip to the colour guide (also included in the kit) it is possible to ascertain whether the cholesterol level is high enough to present a danger to the health.
